British Journal of Cancer
British Journal of Cancer is a peer-reviewed oncology journal published by Springer Nature under its Nature Portfolio imprint and long supported by Cancer Research UKBritish Journal of Cancer(英国癌症杂志)是由 Nature Portfolio 旗下 Springer Nature 出版、由 Cancer Research UK 长期参与资助与背书的同行评议肿瘤学期刊,创刊于 1947 年,现为每年二十四期的半月刊,稿件接受后满十二个月即可开放获取;它在书名上与同属英国医学期刊阵营的外科学刊物 British Journal of Surgery(英国外科学杂志)仅一字之差,但后者由 牛津大学出版社 出版,两刊常被并列提及,也容易被读者混淆。 founded in 1947, it now appears as a twice-monthly journal of twenty-four issues per year whose papers become freely available twelve months after acceptance its title differs by a single word from the surgical journal British Journal of Surgery, which is published by Oxford University Press and belongs to the same British medical journal family, so the two are often cited side by side and are easily confused by readers.[1]
Scope
The journal provides a forum for clinicians and scientists to communicate original research findings relevant to understanding the etiology of cancer and to improving patient treatment and survival.
- The journal describes itself as one of the most-cited general cancer journals and is committed to publishing cutting-edge discovery, translational and clinical cancer research.
- Research is welcome across all cancer types, with a particular focus on metastasis, microenvironment, immunology and immunotherapy, targeted and next-generation therapeutics, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and mechanisms of resistance.
- Further areas of particular focus include clinical trials, genomics, epigenomics and precision medicine, epidemiology, metabolism and state-of-the-art diagnostic approaches.
- Alongside original research the journal also publishes high-quality reviews and thought-provoking comment on all aspects of cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
In editorial orientation the journal does not compete by narrow disciplinary focus but deliberately sustains the position of a general cancer journal, evaluating basic mechanism, translational work and clinical trials within the same pages从办刊取向看,这本期刊并不追求以窄学科取胜,而是刻意维持综合性癌症期刊的定位,把基础机制、转化研究与临床试验放在同一版面内评阅。 its readership spans tumour biologists, clinicians and epidemiologists, so whether a paper is accepted depends heavily on whether its conclusions carry meaning for all of these readers at once, which is the structural reason why its citation base stays high even though its impact factor is not the highest in oncology.
History
- 1947: the journal was founded by the British Empire Cancer Campaign, later renamed the Cancer Research Campaign, one of the research bodies the charity had established to address cancer mortality in Britain.1947 年: 期刊由当时的 British Empire Cancer Campaign(大英帝国癌症运动,后更名为癌症研究运动)创刊,是该慈善组织为应对英国癌症死亡问题而设立的研究机构之一。
- From the 1980s: the Cancer Research Campaign began partnering with the Nature group to publish the journal while retaining ownership and editorial control, an arrangement of charity ownership with commercial publishing that lasted nearly four decades.1980 年代: 癌症研究运动开始与 Nature 集团合作出版该刊,但仍保留所有权与编辑控制权,这一「慈善机构持有、出版商代为发行」的安排维持了近四十年。
- Around 2002: the Cancer Research Campaign merged with other bodies including the Imperial Cancer Research Fund to form Cancer Research UK, and the publishing relationship continued under that charity's name.2002 年前后: 癌症研究运动与英国癌症研究协会等机构合并为 Cancer Research UK,期刊的出版关系随之以该慈善机构的名义延续。
- 2021: following a fall in charitable income during the COVID-19 pandemic, Cancer Research UK sold the journal to Springer Nature, bringing it fully into the Nature Portfolio while keeping both the brand and the title unchanged.2021 年: 因新冠疫情期间慈善收入下滑,Cancer Research UK 将该刊出售给 Springer Nature,期刊自此完整并入 Nature Portfolio 组合,品牌与刊名保持不变。[2]
- At present the journal continues to be published in association with Cancer Research UK, with papers becoming open access under a Creative Commons attribution non-commercial share-alike licence twelve months after acceptance.
Editors
The journal has a single editor-in-chief assisted by a small group of subject editors organised by disciplinary area, forming a compact structure that nevertheless covers the whole of oncology.
- Jeff Evans, Professor of Translational Cancer Research at the University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom, is the editor-in-chief of the journalJeff Evans,格拉斯哥大学(英国)转化癌症研究教授,任该刊主编,同时是英国癌症研究会比森研究所转化癌症治疗实验室的负责人,该所即以他的姓氏命名。 he is also head of the Translational Cancer Therapeutics Laboratory at the Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute, which is named after him.
- Jun Yang, based at St Jude Children's Research Hospital in the United States, is the subject editor for cellular and molecular biology and works on epigenetic mechanisms in oncogenesis.
- Russell Petty, based at the University of Dundee in the United Kingdom, is the subject editor for clinical studies and chairs medical oncology at the Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, having led more than two hundred and fifty clinical trials.
