Biogerontology
Biogerontology is a peer-reviewed journal published by Springer Nature and founded in 2000, devoted to the biological mechanisms of ageing and to extending healthy lifespan, with a 2025 Journal Impact Factor of 5.3.《生物老年学》(Biogerontology)是由(Springer Nature)出版的同行评审期刊,2000 年创刊,专注衰老的生物学机制与健康寿命的延长,2025 年期刊影响因子为 5.3。
Scope
- The journal seeks to understand, prevent, cure or minimise age-related impairments, with healthy old age as its central goal.
- It covers modulation of the ageing process by physical, chemical and biological means, including transgenic and knockout organisms.
- Cell culture systems used to develop new approaches and health care products for restoring lost biochemical functions are within scope.
- Immunology, autoimmunity and infection in ageing form a further strand, as do molecular and physiological biomarkers of ageing.
- Vertebrates, invertebrates, micro-organisms and plants are all used for experimental study of the genetic determinants of ageing and longevity.
- Biodemography and theoretical models linking ageing with survival kinetics are published alongside evolutionary and neurobiological work.
- Article types include original research reports, reviews, hypotheses, new methods, editorials and interviews, as well as guest-edited collections.
History
- The journal was founded in 2000 by Kluwer Academic Publishers, and its first volume opened with Suresh Rattan's editorial Biogerontology and biogerontologists. [1]
- Kluwer's life science list was later merged into Springer, which continues to publish the title under the Springer Nature imprint.(Kluwer)的生命科学出版业务其后并入(Springer),该刊现以(Springer Nature)品牌继续出版。
- Volume 1 appeared in March 2000, and the journal reached volume 27 in 2026.
- Six issues are published each year, in February, April, June, August, October and December.
- The journal operates a hybrid open access model, with subscription articles alongside papers published under open licences.
- The 2025 Journal Impact Factor is 5.3, up from 4.1 in 2024 and 4.284 in 2022, ranking 14 of 72 in geriatrics and gerontology.2025
