Biochar

Biochar is a peer-reviewed fully open access journal published by Springer and sponsored by Shenyang Agricultural University, launched in 2019 as the first journal devoted specifically to biochar across agronomy environmental science and materials science, with a 2025 Journal Impact Factor of 15.1（Biochar）是由（Springer）出版、由（Shenyang Agricultural University）主办的同行评审完全开放获取期刊，2019 年创刊，是首份专门聚焦生物炭的期刊，覆盖农学、环境科学与材料科学，2025 年影响因子为 15.1。

Scope

• It was the first journal to focus specifically on biochar, hosting research on the preparation and processing of biochar and its multifunctional applications该刊是首份专门聚焦生物炭的期刊，刊载生物炭制备与加工及其多功能应用的研究。
• It covers the multidisciplinary subjects of agronomy, environmental science and materials science覆盖农学、环境科学与材料科学等多学科主题。
• Its main areas include bioenergy production and biochar-based materials for environmental applications主要领域包括生物能源生产与面向环境应用的生物炭基材料。
• It publishes work on soil improvement, climate change mitigation and remediation of contaminated environments刊载土壤改良、气候变化减缓与污染环境修复方面的成果。
• It also covers water purification, new analytical techniques and life cycle assessment还涵盖水净化、新型分析技术与生命周期评价。

History

• It was launched in March 2019 by Shenyang Agricultural University together with Springer2019 年 3 月由（Shenyang Agricultural University）与（Springer）共同创办。
• Its first volume in 2019 carried reviews on the history present state and future of biochar research2019 年首卷刊载了探讨生物炭历史现状与未来研究的综述。^[2]
• From volume 5 in 2023 it moved to continuous publication with a single issue per volume自 2023 年第 5 卷起转为连续出版，每卷只出一期。
• It is fully open access and the article processing charges for papers accepted before the end of 2022 were covered by Shenyang Agricultural University该刊为完全开放获取，2022 年底前录用论文的文章处理费由（Shenyang Agricultural University）承担。
• Its Journal Impact Factor rose from 11.452 in 2022 to 13.5 in 2024 and 15.1 in 2025其影响因子从 2022 年的 11.452 升至 2024 年的 13.5 与 2025 年的 15.1。

• The Editor-in-Chief is Wenfu Chen of Shenyang Agricultural University, an academician working on biochar and super high-yielding rice主编为（Shenyang Agricultural University）的（Wenfu Chen）院士，长期从事生物炭与超级稻研究。
