Beijing University of Technology is a municipal key university in Beijing, China, focused on engineering and combining science, engineering, literature, law, economics, management, education and the arts, and it is placed in the 731-740 band of the 2027 QS World University Rankings.北京工业大学是一所位于中国北京市的市属重点大学，以工学为主，兼有理学、工学、文学、法学、经济学、管理学、教育学与艺术学，在 2027 年 QS 世界大学排名中处于 731-740 区间。

It was founded in 1960 and became one of the first institutions in China authorised to confer master's degrees in 1981 and doctoral degrees in 1985, and its motto is Bu Xi Wei Ti, Ri Xin Wei Dao.该校创办于 1960 年，1981 年成为国家教育部批准的第一批硕士学位授予单位、1985 年成为博士学位授予单位，校训为「不息为体，日新为道」。

History

• In December 1959 the Beijing municipal committee of the Communist Party decided to establish the university and assigned Yin Fengxiang, then a party secretary at the Beijing Geology Institute, to organise preparations.1959 年 12 月，中共北京市委决定创办北京工业大学，并派北京地质学院党委副书记尹凤翔具体负责筹办工作。

• Liu Ren, then second secretary of the Beijing municipal party committee, planned the university as a first-class Chinese institution with capacity for twenty thousand students.时任中共北京市委第二书记刘仁计划把北京工业大学建成一所可容纳两万学生的中国一流大学。

• The search for a site went through several plans, first at Dougezhuang in the Chaoyang district, approved by the municipal planning bureau in December 1959.校址的选定几经波折，最初计划在朝阳区豆各庄兴建，北京市城市规划管理局于 1959 年 12 月通过该方案。

• The plans for Dougezhuang, then for Shuiduizi, failed, the latter because the site lay close to a planned diplomatic quarter.豆各庄方案随后作罢，其后选定的水碓子方案也因距规划中的使馆区较近而告吹。

• Economic difficulties led the government to cancel the Huairou campus, and Pingleyuan became the university's permanent campus.由于经济困难，政府取消了怀柔校区的建设计划，平乐园校址成为北京工业大学的永久校区。

• The university formally opened in September 1960 with five departments: mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, radio engineering, chemical engineering, and mathematics and physics.该校于 1960 年 9 月正式开学，设机械、电机、无线电、化工、数理五个系。
