The Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT, 北京邮电大学) is a public research university in Beijing, China, best known for information and communication technology, and it is co-funded by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.北京邮电大学（BUPT）是中国北京的一所公立研究型大学，以信息与通信技术见长，由教育部与工业和信息化部共建，是中国信息科技人才的重要培养基地。

Founded in 1955 as the first post and telecommunications institution of higher education of the People's Republic of China, it enrolled more than 28,000 full-time students in 2025 and is part of the Double First-Class programme.该校创办于 1955 年，是中华人民共和国第一所邮电高等学府；截至 2025 年，全日制在校学生超过 28,000 人，并入选国家「双一流」建设高校。

History

• BUPT was founded in 1955 as the Beijing Institute of Posts and Telecommunications, built on telecommunications programmes transferred from Tianjin University and Chongqing University.该校于 1955 年创办，定名北京邮电学院，由天津大学电讯系与重庆大学电机系拨入的相关专业为基础组建而成，是新中国成立后设立的第一所邮电高等学府。

• Ye Peida (1915-2011), a pioneer of microwave and optical fibre communication, served as the university's third president and was a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.叶培大（1915—2011）是中国微波通信与光纤通信的开拓者，曾任该校第三任院长，并当选中国科学院院士。
