Beihang University, also known in Chinese as Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and by the initials BUAA, is a public engineering university in Haidian, Beijing, affiliated with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and counted among the "Seven Sons of National Defence".北京航空航天大学（英文简称 BUAA）是位于北京市海淀区的一所公立工科大学，隶属工业和信息化部，并被视为国防七子之一。

Founded in 1952 as the Beijing Aeronautics College from the merger of the aeronautical departments of eight leading universities, it has become a multidisciplinary university with 30 faculties and roughly 30,600 students enrolled in its degree programmes.该校 1952 年以北京航空学院之名成立，由八所知名大学的航空系合并而成，如今已是一所设有 30 个学院、在校学位生约 30600 人的多科性大学。

History

• In March 1951 the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party made initial adjustments to the aeronautical departments of domestic universities, gathering the aviation faculties of Tsinghua University, Peiyang University, Northwestern Engineering Institute and Xiamen University into a single faculty at Tsinghua.1951 年 3 月，中共中央对国内高校的航空系作出初步调整，把清华大学、北洋大学、西北工学院与厦门大学的航空系合并为清华大学的一个学院。

• On 10 December 1951 Premier Zhou Enlai convened a meeting on converting the aviation industry from maintenance to production, at which Vice Premier Li Fuchun argued that building an aviation university was urgent.1951 年 12 月 10 日，周恩来总理召集会议讨论将航空工业从维修转向生产，副总理李富春在会上提出兴办一所航空大学已刻不容缓。
