It was founded in 1981 by Erik De Clercq and Alfons Billiau at the Rega Institute in Leuven, Belgium, concentrates on experimental work on antiviral drugs and vaccines, is a hybrid title, and had a 2025 impact factor of 4.3.《抗病毒研究》(Antiviral Research'''',缩写 Antivir. Res.'')

Scope

The journal's editorial position is that a demonstrable antiviral effect must be at the centre of a paper: whether the work sits in chemical synthesis, animal modelling or preclinical evaluation, it must give reproducible evidence of activity against a specific virus.

The journal is hybrid and the gold open access article processing charge is 3,650 US dollars. The publisher reports four days to first decision, thirty-three days to a decision after review and eighty-one days to acceptance, and publishes no acceptance rate. [1]

History

Editors

The journal is led by an editor-in-chief supported by co-editors and a board divided by virus family, with several long-serving senior figures among its members. Each of the three successions since the founding has accompanied a shift of emphasis, from medicinal chemistry outwards into virology and host immunity. [4]
