Anhui Medical University

Anhui Medical University (AHMU) is a provincial public medical university on Meishan Road in Hefei, the capital of Anhui Province in eastern China, and the oldest institution of higher medical education in the province.安徽医科大学是位于中国东部安徽省省会合肥梅山路的一所省属公立医科大学，也是安徽省历史最悠久的高等医学教育机构。

It began in Shanghai in 1926 as Dongnan Medical University, moved to Anhui at the end of 1949 and took its present name in 1985, when the provincial medical college was upgraded to university status.学校 1926 年创办于上海，初名东南医科大学，1949 年底迁入安徽，1985 年由省属医学院升格并改用现名。

The university is jointly built by the Anhui Provincial Government, the Ministry of Education and the National Health Commission, and it initiated the Yangtze River Delta Medical Education Alliance in December 2019.学校由安徽省人民政府、教育部与国家卫生健康委员会共建，并于 2019 年 12 月发起成立长三角医学教育联盟。

History

• The university traces its origin to Dongnan Medical University, a private school founded in Shanghai on 29 May 1926 by the physicians Guo Qiyuan, Tang Lizhou, Miao Zhengzhong and Chen Zhongchen, who took over the students of the defunct Yadong Medical University.学校的前身是 1926 年 5 月 29 日在上海创办的私立东南医科大学，由郭琦元、汤蠡舟、缪征中、陈重臣等医学界人士接办已停办的亚东医科大学并收留其学生后创立。
• It opened on 10 September 1926 at 363 Hujunying Waima Road in the Nanshi district with 170 students in a four-year medical course, with Chu Minyi as chairman of the board of directors and Guo Qiyuan as president.学校 1926 年 9 月 10 日在南市区沪军营外马路 363 号开学，首期招收四年制医学专科学生 170 人，褚民谊任主席校董，郭琦元任校长。
• A revised charter in the autumn of 1927 converted the school to a five-year university programme and ended admission to the short medical course.1927 年秋，校董会修订章程，将学校改办为五年制大学，专科随即停止招生。
• When three medical schools in Hangzhou, Suzhou and Guangzhou closed or were reorganised in the spring of 1928, several hundred of their students transferred to the Shanghai campus.1928 年春，杭州广济、苏州医大与广州中法三所医学院先后改组或停办，大批失学学生转入这所位于上海的学校。
• The school was renamed Dongnan Medical College in the spring of 1930 and was registered by the Ministry of Education of the Nationalist government in 1931, when it moved its headquarters to Zhenru and turned the old site into its affiliated hospital.学校 1930 年春改称东南医学院，1931 年经国民政府教育部核准立案，院本部迁至上海真如镇，原校址改作附属医院。
• Cai Yuanpei, then president of the Academia Sinica, attended the anniversary celebrations of 1933 and 1934 and wrote the inscriptions Haoxue Lixing and Zaojiu Liangyi, which became the university motto.时任中央研究院院长蔡元培 1933 年与 1934 年两度到校祝贺校庆，分别题写「好学力行」与「造就良医」，这两句题辞后来成为校训。
• The campus was destroyed when fighting reached Shanghai in 1937, and teachers and students crowded into a rented compound at 299 Saposai Road inside the occupied foreign concession.1937 年淞沪会战爆发后校舍尽毁，师生员工挤住在沦陷区萨坡赛路 299 号的租借院落中。
• The ophthalmologist Zhang Xiqi took over the presidency at that point and subsidised the school from the income of his own Guanghua Eye Hospital in Shanghai, with the pathologist Ye Shu as dean of studies.眼科专家张锡祺在此时出任院长，以自营的上海光华眼科医院收入贴补办学经费，病理学教授叶曙出任教务长。
• After the war the college moved to Zhizaoju Road in southern Shanghai, and at the end of December 1949 it was ordered inland and moved as a whole to Ximengang in Huaiyuan County, Anhui.抗战胜利后学校迁至上海市南市区制造局路，1949 年 12 月底奉命内迁，整体迁至安徽省怀远县西门岗。
• Its new home used the buildings of the Huaixi Middle School, the Peide Girls' School, the Minwang and Minkang hospitals and the provincial middle school on a site of more than 300 mu, making it the first higher medical school in Anhui.新校址以美国教会兴办的淮西中学、培德女子学校、民望医院、民康医院及省立中学等房舍为校舍，占地 300 余亩，成为安徽省第一所高等医科院校。
• On 22 June 1951 the Ministry of Health of the East China Military and Political Committee approved the conversion of the private college into a national institution under the Wanbei administrative office and the central Ministry of Health.1951 年 6 月 22 日，华东军政委员会卫生部批准学校由私立改为国立，委托皖北行署接管，直属中央卫生部领导。
• The affiliated hospital moved from Huaiyuan to Qian Street, now Changjiang Road, in Hefei on 27 August 1951, and the whole college followed to Hefei in 1952, when it was renamed Anhui Medical College in October.附属医院 1951 年 8 月 27 日由怀远迁至合肥前大街即今长江路，学校 1952 年全部迁建合肥，同年 10 月改名为安徽医学院。
• Anhui Medical College began to enrol graduate students in 1956 with the approval of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education.1956 年，经卫生部与教育部批准，学校开始招收研究生。
• During the Cultural Revolution the college was moved to the countryside of Fengtai County in 1968, stopped enrolling students for four years and lost much of its equipment and buildings.文化大革命期间，学校 1968 年迁至凤台县农村，停止招生四年，校舍与设备损失严重。
• It returned to Hefei in the spring of 1970, when Bengbu Medical College, Anhui College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Wuhu Medical School were merged into it as the so-called Anhui Medical College General School.1970 年春学校迁回合肥，蚌埠医学院、安徽中医学院与芜湖医专被撤并入校，称「安徽医学院总校」。
• That merger was undone in 1973, when Bengbu Medical College was restored and Wannan Medical College was prepared, and a department of public health was added in 1975.这一合并于 1973 年撤销，蚌埠医学院恢复建制，皖南医学院开始筹建，学校 1975 年又新建卫生系。
• The traditional Chinese medicine and pharmacy departments and the second affiliated hospital were transferred to the restored Anhui College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1976.1976 年安徽中医学院恢复，中医与药学两系连同第二附属医院一并划归该院。
• Anhui Medical College was designated a provincial key university in 1978 and renamed Anhui Medical University in December 1985.安徽医学院 1978 年被定为省属重点大学，1985 年 12 月改名为安徽医科大学。
• It was authorised to award doctoral degrees in 1990, becoming the first provincial university in China to hold that right, and the Ministry of Education formally approved the university name in June 1996.学校 1990 年获博士学位授予权，成为全国第一所具有该权限的省属高校，教育部于 1996 年 6 月正式批准其大学校名。

• Anhui's first dedicated translational medicine institute was set up at the university in January 2017, and in July 2019 a laboratory led by its reproductive medicine team became the province's first key laboratory of the National Health Commission.安徽省首个转化医学实体研究机构 2017 年 1 月落户学校，2019 年 7 月由其生殖医学团队牵头的实验室成为全省首个国家卫生健康委员会重点实验室。

• The university runs 20 directly affiliated teaching units, among them schools of basic medicine, public health, stomatology, health management, pharmacy, nursing, life sciences, biomedical engineering, humanities and medicine, and mental health and psychological science.学校设有 20 个直属教学机构，包括基础医学院、公共卫生学院、口腔医学院、卫生管理学院、药学院、护理学院、生命科学学院、生物医学工程学院、人文医学学院与精神卫生与心理科学学院等。

Campus

• The main campus stands on Meishan Road in central Hefei, and the university also teaches at Feicui Road and on an eastern campus of the city.校本部位于合肥市区梅山路，学校另有翡翠路校区与东校区。

• The motto, study diligently and practise earnestly so as to train good physicians, is taken from Cai Yuanpei's inscriptions of 1933 and 1934.校训「好学力行，造就良医」取自蔡元培 1933 年与 1934 年的两幅题辞。
• The university emblem combines the welcoming pine of Huangshan, the rod of Asclepius and the year 1926, and the Chinese name on it was written by Guo Moruo.校徽以黄山迎客松、蛇杖与数字 1926 为基本元素，其上的中文校名由郭沫若题写。

• Jiang Zuojun, a graduate of the medical faculty, became vice minister of health and now serves as vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairman of the China Zhi Gong Party.蒋作君毕业于该校医疗系，曾任卫生部副部长，现任全国政协副主席、中国致公党中央委员会主席。
• Qin Boyi entered Dongnan Medical College in 1949, became an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and served as president of the Academy of Military Medical Sciences.秦伯益 1949 年考入东南医学院，后当选中国工程院院士，并曾任军事医学科学院院长。
• Xia Qiang, a 1987 graduate, is a hepatobiliary surgeon, president of Renji Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.夏强 1987 年毕业，是肝胆外科专家、上海交通大学医学院附属仁济医院院长，并当选中国工程院院士。
• Wu Zunyou, who graduated in preventive medicine in 1985, is an epidemiologist and director of the National Center for AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Disease Control and Prevention at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.吴尊友 1985 年毕业于预防医学专业，是流行病学家，现任中国疾病预防控制中心性病艾滋病预防控制中心主任。
• Jin Huiqing, a 1982 preventive medicine graduate, is vice chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, a deputy to the 12th National People's Congress and a winner of a 2002 national first prize for science and technology progress.金会庆 1982 年毕业于预防医学专业，现任中华全国工商业联合会副主席、第十二届全国人民代表大会代表，并获 2002 年度国家科技进步一等奖。
• Liang Wannian, a 1983 graduate in preventive medicine, directed the reform department of the National Health and Family Planning Commission.梁万年 1983 年毕业于预防医学专业，曾任国家卫生和计划生育委员会体制改革司司长。
