Acta Mathematica

Acta Mathematica (commonly abbreviated as ''Acta Math.') is a peer-reviewed academic journal owned and published by the Institut Mittag-Leffler, issued four times a year. One of the most prestigious research journals in mathematics and among the very few top titles hosted by a research institute rather than a learned society, it has not changed ownership since its founding more than a century and a half ago.《数学 Acta》(Acta Mathematica',常用缩写为 Acta Math.''''')

Scope

The journal exists to communicate pure mathematical research: it runs no application-oriented sections and takes no review-centred articles, publishing only original research whose substance lies in proof and argument. That genre choice matches its ownership structure. Hosted by an institute, its editorial judgement is made by mathematicians rather than by a publisher, and length and influence serve the adequate presentation of the research itself.

The journal appears quarterly in March, June, September and December, at roughly eight hundred pages to two volumes. Its publishing arrangement is unusual: by special arrangement with the institute, the entire content back to the founding volume of 1882 is freely available online with no article charge, while the printed edition still exists and may be subscribed to at International Press, producing a dual track of fully open electronic content alongside a subscribable print edition. The publisher reports Journal Citation Reports data only: a 2025 impact factor of 7.3, a five-year factor of 6.8 and an immediacy index of 1.200. Neither CiteScore nor an acceptance rate is published, and acceptance requires the agreement of the editorial board. [2]

History

Editors

There is a conflict between official sources over who edits the journal, and it is best recorded as it stands rather than resolved by preference. The institute's own page for the title names Hans Ringström, while International Press's newer page and the institute's 2025 annual report both name Tobias Ekholm. What can be confirmed is a timeline: in the 2019 annual report Ekholm already edited this journal while Ringström edited another title of the institute, Arkiv för matematik本刊的主编归属存在官方来源冲突,应如实并列而非择一:研究所官网的本刊页面列汉斯·林斯特伦为主编,而国际出版社的新版页面与研究所二〇二五年年报均列托比亚斯·埃克霍尔姆。 Ringström then held this journal for a time, before Ekholm returned around 2025. The precise years of Ringström's tenure here are not established. Submission and acceptance procedures are published by the institute, and acceptance requires the agreement of the editorial board.[6]
