Acta Materialia
Acta Materialia (abbreviated Acta Mater.) is a peer-reviewed materials science journal published by Elsevier on behalf of Acta Materialia Inc., issued twenty times per year, and is among the most authoritative general journals in structural and functional materials.《材料学报》(Acta Materialia,常用缩写 Acta Mater.)
Scope
Acta Materialia provides a forum for full-length original papers, commissioned Overviews, and feature articles that advance the in-depth understanding of the relationships between the processing, structure, and properties of inorganic materials, prioritizing papers that significantly move the field forward with mechanistic connections.
- Structure across all scales: Materials structure at all scales is of interest, from electronic, atomic, and molecular arrangements to chemical and electronic structures and microstructure.
- Methods and paradigms: Explorations of these connections by experiment, computation, theory, data science, and machine learning are all welcome, with particular emphasis on studies that bridge theory, computation, and experiment through mechanistic means.
- Property emphasis: Emphasis is placed on the mechanical or functional behavior of inorganic solids at all length scales down to nanostructures.
- Article types: The journal publishes primarily full-length original research papers and commissioned reviews, along with feature articles.
History
- Launch and predecessors (1953): The journal was established in 1953 as Acta Metallurgica, published by Pergamon Press from 1956, and renamed Acta Metallurgica et Materialia in 1990. [1]
- Current title and consolidation (1996): The journal adopted its current name, Acta Materialia, in 1996 and incorporates Nanostructured Materials, which was published independently from 1992 to 1999, with the Pergamon imprint retained for some time after the acquisition by Elsevier. [1]
- Society ownership and sibling journal: The journal is managed by Acta Materialia Inc., a nonprofit materials-science organization, and belongs to a journal family alongside its companion Scripta Materialia, established in 1967. [1]
Editors
The journal is led by a Coordinating Editor, supported by field Editors who oversee manuscript handling and peer review:期刊实行协调编辑(Coordinating Editor)统筹、领域编辑分管的编辑制度:
- Current Coordinating Editor: Gregory S. Rohrer, professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. [2]
- Editorial board: The journal maintains a group of field editors spanning the mechanical behavior of metals and alloys, computational materials and materials informatics, nanostructured materials, and phase transformations and diffusion, who handle initial assessment and review organization in their areas. [2]
