ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the American Chemical Society.

The journal covers interdisciplinary research across materials science, chemistry, and interface engineering.

Scope

The journal focuses on the design of new materials and their practical applications, with a strong emphasis on the chemistry and physics of materials and interfaces.

Published topics encompass energy conversion and storage, biomaterials and biomedical interfaces, advanced catalysis, electronic devices, and functional nanocomposites.

It aims to bridge the gap between fundamental materials science and real-world engineering applications.

History

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces was established in 2009 to address the rapidly growing need for interdisciplinary research in materials science and engineering.

Initially published on a monthly basis, the journal later shifted to a semi-monthly and then weekly publication schedule due to a surge in submissions and published articles.

Following its growth and impact, the American Chemical Society introduced several spin-off journals under the "ACS Applied" portfolio, including ACS Applied Nano Materials and ACS Applied Energy Materials.

Editors

Kirk S. Schanze served as the founding Editor-in-Chief of the journal.

The Editor-in-Chief leads an international team of Associate Editors and senior editorial staff who oversee the peer-review process across distinct specialized subfields.

The editorial board is supported by an international advisory board comprising prominent materials scientists from universities and research institutions worldwide.
