Abuite

Abuite is a rare calcium aluminium phosphate mineral that forms colourless grains in hydrothermally altered volcanic rocks at a single locality in Japan.

It was approved as a new mineral species in 2014 and formally described in 2017, and its name refers to the Abu district of Yamaguchi Prefecture where it was discovered.

Because the grains rarely exceed 500 μm and are optically almost indistinguishable from the quartz and augelite that enclose them, abuite is known almost entirely from microscopic material.
